Dragonflight

This guide describes how to run the Amiga version of Dragonflight on Windows XP.

NOTE: I am assuming this game has been released as abandonware but should this not be the case I will immediately take down the files upon request (oldgames at kiemet.net).

The game exists only in a floppy disk version supporting a single disk drive. This version is available here and only requires you to complete step 1 below. To avoid disk shuffling, however, it is possible to install the game on a virtual harddisk using WHDLoad.

1) Download and install WinUAE. It is necessary to obtain ADF images of the Amiga Kickstart ROM – these are protected by copyright meaning I won’t be able to help you.

2) Download and install AIAB or configure WinUAE to run with a virtual harddisk yourself. AIAB is highly recommended.

3) Download WHDLoad and make it accessible on the harddisk of your virtual Amiga. Install from inside WinUAE. This version of WHDLoad has been tested and works for Dragonflight.

4) Now, unpack the archive containing the HD install version of the game from inside WinUAE. This archive was obtained from the Thalion Webshrine, but has two problems: 1) it was created with an outdated version of the Dragonflight install script for WHDLoad, 2) it has PrtScrn as exit key, which is not configurable from WinUAE.

5) Download the latest version of the install script for Dragonflight and unpack it on top of the HD install you just downloaded.

6) From within your virtual Amiga, reconfigure the exit key for WHDLoad by right-clicking on the Dragonflight icon used to start the game. Select ‘Information’ from the pop-up menu, then ‘Icon’ and in the field ‘Tooltypes’ put ‘QUITKEY=$59’. The quit key has now been reconfigured to F10 which is mapped directly to F10 on your PC keyboard by WinUAE. You should always end the game using the quit key, as the save game is often written only to a buffer and not to the disk.
